Savory Faire Food Tasting Tour

St. Augustine, Florida

Dine and drink your way through the USA's oldest city

By Steven Skelley and Thomas Routzong

St. Augustine, Florida is truly one of the most unique and interesting cities in the U.S.A. With 450 years of history in its city streets and Spanish fortress, it is a must-see for anyone visiting the Sunshine State. If you'd like to enjoy an eclectic variety of taste treats while exploring this beautiful city, be sure to join the Savory Faire Food Tasting Tour and dine and drink your way through the USA's oldest city.
The Savory Faire Food Tasting Tour is a "three hour, award-winning VIP tasting extravaganza" offered by Tour St. Augustine Inc.

Guests explore five to six "unique culinary venues while tasting the delicious foods & fresh flavors of local restaurants, gourmet shops, and 'off the beaten path' foodie hot spots."

A Wine-Pairing option is also available and includes four glasses of specially paired boutique wines during the tour.

Our guide was Ed Koczengo, an instructor at Flagler College. Koczengo is an excellent story teller with a very expressive face and manner. He can also be very funny. He is very knowledgeable of St. Augustine history, ghost tales, the restaurants visited as well as the dishes served and the wines sampled.

Our first stop was at the Lightner Museum which is just a few steps from the Tour St. Augustine Inc. office. We dined in what was once a hotel swimming pool. We sampled escargot and cheese with toast corners, pieces of pita bread pizza, and Meritage and Riesling wines.

Our second stop was at the Old City House Inn Bed and Breakfast where we enjoyed a four-cheese ravioli and Sangria.

Our third stop was at the Ancient Olive store where we viewed and sampled specialty oils and wine smoothie mixes by Vino Del Grotto wines.

Our fourth stop was Romeo's Italian Cafe. We sipped Cabernet Sangiovese wine while sampling their panini, meatball and breadstick.

Our final stop on the tour was Athena Greek Restaurant. Our taste treats included Saganaki flaming cheese, a gyro and Baklava for dessert. Murals of St. Augustine history adorn the walls of Athena Greek Restaurant.

The Savory Faire Food Tour costs $59 per person. The wine-pairing upgrade is an additional $19 per person.

The Savory Faire Food Tasting Tour is a tasty way to dine and drink your way through the USA's oldest city.
