Travelites Nudist Retreat - Arrive as a visitor, leave as a friend.
By Steven Skelley and Thomas Routzong
For more than thirty years, Travelites, Inc. has offered a South Carolina retreat whose "members and visitors enjoy the pool, hot tub, volleyball, lawn games, chaise lounges, relaxing, and de-stressing."
They firmly believe that nudism is for the whoile family to enjoy. Families, couples, and single men and women of good character are invited to visit and join.
Travelites is affiliated with both TNS and AANR.
We asked Cheri Donna Alexander Dawson, Executive Founder and Founder, to tell us more.
How would you describe your property in one sentence?
The perfect place to relax and de-stress in nature; we don't profess to be a resort.
Why is nudism / naturism an important and healthy choice?
It's the great human equalizer, accepting yourself and others for who you are rather than what you look like, own, or wear. We are born nudists and taught body shame by our family. Children are natural nudists; they usually take to it like a duck to water.
What is special about your nudist / naturist property?
The grounds fee is $25, the least expensive in the Carolinas and Georgia. We are family and single friendly. Full members can visit without paying anything except for special events when it's $5/person.
It's a relaxed setting with 2 decks, a pool 18x33', hot tub, and canopy on one of the decks with a hand made rug on the floor.
There is a computer set up in our furnished clubhouse that has a/c and heat. Our chaise lounges have 3-1/2 to 4 inch pads.
Three umbrellas have an SPF of 50 and one with 100 SPF. There are a couple of others.
There are flower beds including a couple of wildflower beds for pollinators. There are other flower beds one of which is a memorial garden.
There is a communal kitchen. The 2200 sq.ft. house is available for overnighters who usually get a breakfast. The entire property is WiFi'd at no charge.
People arrive as visitors and leave as friends. For those who have family who do not or feel like disrobing at all, they can remain clothed except in the pool and spa. In the textile area, there is a picnic table, bench. You walk through an arbor to access it.
Why are nudists and naturists such special and unique people?
Nudists are generally more giving than the general public, ready to go above and beyond for friends and previously unmet, very giving.
I have met very few nudists who were not friendly.
Travelites, having been started in 1987, still has some members who have been affiliated the entire time. Since humans are social animals, we tend to gravitate to those of similar beliefs.
What plans do you have for the future?
We are planning to empty the storage garage and make it a games/socializing building. I have a ping pong table. We would move the dart board in there, have a basketball half court outside of it, and two card tables for board games and cards.
I would also like to add a lavatory separate from the baths in the house.
